Yoga has been a central part of Phyllis’s life for 40+ years. A longtime runner and outdoor enthusiast, fitness and a healthy lifestyle have always been priorities, even when career pressure and motherhood also demanded her attention. However, whenever life became chaotic and challenging, she always found a way back to her mat.
Phyllis has had the privilege of practicing different styles of yoga—including hatha, flow, and vinyasa—with several remarkable teachers, including Jeff Mah, Kevin Elander, Shirley Johannesen and Kathy Nash. In 2015-16, Phyllis committed to a teacher training program with Kevin Elander, and began teaching—sharing her insights—immediately thereafter. Her mission as a teacher encompasses three ideals: to help the practitioner discover their potential; for each individual to feel safe, supported and confident in class; and to have students leave the practice space feeling energized and with tools to live his or her best life.
At the core of Phyllis’s classes is the notion of ‘functional’ yoga: “Yoga for healthy living”. It’s never about creating the ‘perfect’ pose, but slowly and consistently working on the pillars of a healthy, sustainable practice: balance, stability, mobility and strength.
Phyllis presently holds the following recognitions:
